Tis The Season For APRICOTS

The apricots are rapidly reaching their peak in our backyard tree, and I have been working hard the past few days prepping and cooking them into what's needed for apricot desserts.

Apricot oatmeal bars are a perfect late day snack, as well as healthy breakfast option.

If you need, I can individually wrap them in waxed paper for your order.

April has been a time of renewal and significant change in my life for the past decade.

San Jose, California :

I met my husband, bought a house, got married, sold the house, Jacqueline's Goodies came to fruition after MANY years of planning, resigned from public school teaching after 11 years, got pregnant, had a baby, learned to live without a steady paycheck for the first time in my adult life, embraced full time motherhood, contemplated homeschooling, moved to Arizona, moved back to the Bay Area exactly three months later, realized living in the center of a bustling commercial area wasn't for me, and searched for tranquility in all forms.

Now, as my vivacious daughter is two weeks away from her second birthday and I am still enamored with being her constant caregiver and teacher, we have found a house in Japantown with mature fruit trees, large backyard, and close proximity to my original customer base.

A huge exhale of relief is upon me...

I will be taking a short break to pack/unpack, and resume baking orders on Easter 2011.

Thank you to my friends, family, fellow farmer's market traders, and new customers everywhere. You continue to inspire and allow me to do what I love - fill the home with sweetness and belly with deliciousness.

Pistachio Sliver Moons and Burlingame Farmer's Market

I have been baking many batches of these scrumptious cookies lately, and was fortunate enough to have three vendors at the local farmer's market accept my offer to trade last Sunday. We now have ongoing weekly trades with a San Francisco-based bakery, a local fruit orchard, and a pupusa/tamale maker. I'm hoping to expand my goodie trades with a Mediterranean food vendor and a flower seller next week. Photographed are the pistachio sliver moons in crescent and whole moon shapes, generously dusted with powdered sugar.

Hamentaschen

The opportunity to continue tradition by using my great grandmother's rolling pin and making apricot hamentaschen today was a wonderful experience. I felt childhood memories singing songs in Hebrew from decades ago. Thanks Ron for coming all the way down to San Jose from San Carlos to pick up your treats! I love having a chance to fulfill individual cravings and make items not on dessert portfolio.

Festive Fall

The weather here has been playing major tricks with my mind lately. Just when I thought it was getting cooler and felt over-excited to wrap myself in a long sleeved shirt for an entire day, the heat came back. From 61 degrees at 10 a.m. to 72 degrees at 1:30 p.m. Jeepers! Normally I would leap at the chance to have an eternal summer, but I'm ready for a change in season.

Thanks to all the pumpkin bread fanatics out there for truly getting me into an autumn baking spirit. I think I've baked more pumpkin breads in the past 3 weeks than perhaps the past 6 months combined! Take a glance at the gorgeous cluster pomegranates my friend Christine let me retrieve from her backyard. In addition, this luscious lemon poppyseed cake for part of Tanya's Halloween order today allowed me an opportunity to make extra and "sample" a goodie I hadn't baked for myself in a long time. Needless to say, there are only crumbs left :)

Packaging!

As of June 9, 2008, I am using deep hinged-lid containers made from 100% bagasse (sugar cane pulp) for all cookie and bar orders unless a paper gift box with clear plastic window lid is specifically requested. Containers are made in the U.S.A. (Burlingame, CA), biodegradable, and compostable. I will continue to have a stock of the fancier paper boxes on hand for a more formal looking cookie package. THANK YOU for supporting my baking passion! After over a decade as a California public school teacher and nearly double that working in the restaurant/food service industry (NY, CA, NC, Canada), I am delighted to offer friends and acquaintances some personal favorites. The overwhelming majority of recipes are my very own, tried and tested numerous times. The rest are slightly modified recipes from friends, family, and favorite bakers. An admitted dessert snob, I use no preservatives or artificial ingredients.

Only high quality ingredients are used in my goodies. Among the most frequent are: King Arthur flour, cage free eggs, rBST and hormone free dairy products, Valhrona chocolate, Scharffen Berger chocolate, Lindt chocolate, Villars chocolate, Ghirardelli chocolate, Tahitian and Bourbon vanilla extracts, Boyajian fruit oils, LorAnn emulsions, C&H white and brown sugars, California grown nuts and fruits (fresh and dried).

All orders are custom made the day of your delivery, pick up or shipment out of state. There may be irregularities in appearance unless I use a cookie cutter. Each item can be made more bumpy, nutty, fruity or chocolatey according to your preference, and ingredients can be omitted if you have food allergies.

Three days notice required on all orders, and I appreciate 7 + days advance warning on larger orders (more than 4 different goodies or 4 dozen of any item).

Delivery within 5 miles of my kitchen is free!

I ship out-of-state orders via USPS Express Mail.

*Lettering is not my strength in cake decorating, therefore it is more time consuming. I charge $10 extra per item to customize special occasion cakes. Cupcake pricing will be determined based on the particularities of your order. I do not work with fondant.
